Josh Pastner is hiring former NBA Rookie of the Year Damon Stoudamire as an assistant on the Memphis staff, a source told CBSSports.com on Monday.

A formal announcement is expected soon.

Stoudamire, 37, played at Arizona like Pastner and has been an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies since 2009. He spent 13 seasons as a player in the NBA and will join Jack Murphy on the Tigers staff. Pastner still has one spot left to fill because Willis Wilson and Glynn Cyprien both left after last season. Wilson took the head coaching position at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Cyprien is now an assistant for Billy Kennedy at Texas A&M.

Hopefully you will get back to your old self Smith.  Dras shouldn't have warned you.  The Ville barely posts anymore so I don't have anyone to frack with.  BigBlueKevin is fun to mess with but he hardly ever posts.  Plus he's a closet Memphis fan.

Well, I would say something, but I am afraid at pis....making angry another Memphis fan with my language after getting roped and baited into a conversation, only to have that Memphis fan prove what a real dic.....mean person he is by reporting me, getting me busted all the way down to PRO status, from my NEW All Star status.

Stoudamire and Murphy both said Memphis basketball is bigger then Arizona basketball.  People outside of Memphis just don't really understand.

Gary, if you didn't live so close to Memphis, would this be news?  At all?

It's called the off season for a reason.  Look at the other top stories.  Do you think Ohio St. hiring Paulus is bigger than Memphis hiring a past NBA Rookie of the Year?  Did you click on the Penn St. is hoping to name a coach "very soon" story or did you click on this one?  Maybe Gary does a lot of stories on Memphis because he knows they will get a lot of hits from not only Memphis fans, but also, inexplicably, Kentucky fans.
As a Memphis fan, I thank you for contiuing to allow us to see more Memphis stories. Wink

"yet to win them a NCAA Tournament game in (fill in the blank) years'- how many times did we hear that about Calipari when he was here?
