UNC, UK, then what?

Only Terrence Jones and/or Brandon Knight returning to Kentucky will keep North Carolina from being No. 1 in the preseason polls, and even then it'll be debatable. For now, though, I'm operating under the assumption that both will enter and remain in the NBA Draft, which would make my preseason top five look like this:
  1. North Carolina
  2. Kentucky
  3. Syracuse
  4. Ohio State
  5. Vanderbilt
The one thing that could change this -- besides me simply changing my mind -- would be Vandy's Jeff Taylor, John Jenkins or Fest Ezeli turning pro, but there's no indication any of that will happen. Regardless, most preseason rankings will have the same two teams at the top. After that is where the debate will begin.

UNC, UK, then what?

Preseason polls are about as meaningful as Power Rankings during an NBA/NFL/NHL season. In other words, they aren't worth he paper they are written on (or in his case, the HTML or PHP code required to post them). And based on the chemistry problems that both UNC and Kentucky have had in the past few seasons with their highly-touted talent, I would be wary of any rankings based on hypotheticals - which these surely are. Especially at this point in the season, there are a whole lot of variables that could change. And one of the most important is how well all this blue-chip talent is going to mesh. Until the season actually starts and we get to see how all this talent shakes out on he court, I would take any and all rankings with a very large grain of salt. But that is not really Parrish's point. His point is that
That being said, on paper UNC and Kentucky are probably the two best teams out there and for that reason Parrish's updated rankings are somewhat defensible. this is especially true for UNC - their talent appeared to mesh well during the season after Marshall took over and they are going to be a junior-and senior-led team, which is when they typically perform at their best (Tyler Hansbrough's four years are the exception to that rule). And Calipari, for all his negatives, does do a very good job of getting his recruits to play well - he even managed to keep DeMarcus Cousins mostly under control.  So these do make sense as far as it goes. And Syracuse, Ohio State and Vanderbilt are also talented, experienced teams and therefore (once again on paper) probably deserve the high rankings. For speaking solely for myself, I will be far more interested to see how the season actually plays out than to focus on some reporter's idea of what the best teams are for a season that is well over six months away from starting.

UNC, UK, then what?

Good to see that Duke isn't in your Top 5... They should even be in your Top 10 for that matter. With a starting lineup of Rivers, Curry, Kelly & the Plum-less brothers, A LOT of teams are salivating to play Duke next season!!
Typical drivel.  Way to take something that has nothing to do with Duke and make it all about them.  I guess that makes you a Duke fan, in its own way.  Notice the comparisons between last year's UNC team and this coming year's Duke team.  When they take at least one win from you, I hope that saliva turns to tears.

UNC, UK, then what?

A lot of teams will be salivating to play a team with 3 athletic 6'10+ guys, Kelly (6'11 and normally shoots pretty well), the second to top recruit in this class and some combination of sharpshooters and wing players?  Other than UNC maybe, I highly doubt it.  Duke is young, but they've got a whole lot of talent.  If they don't finish the season in the top 10 I'll be shocked (and they should start the season there).
