Source: Pat Knight to be Lamar's next coach

Former Texas Tech coach Pat Knight interviewed at Lamar on Monday and will be named the Cardinals' next head coach, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com on Tuesday.

An offical announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.

Knight coached Texas Tech for parts of four seasons after taking over for his father, Bob Knight, in February 2008. The 40 year old was fired last month after leading the Red Raiders to a ninth-or-worse finish in the Big 12 for the third straight year. He's replacing Steve Roccaforte at Lamar.

Indiana should fire Crean right  now and take Butler's Stevens.
Give Tom atleast one more year.  IU basketball was in a mess when he came in and has been in a mess for a long time.  Sometimes it just takes patience.  Sure this will be his 4th year coming up, but SLOWLY they have progressed.

Pat Knight's style will not work today...It's Bobby Knight all over again...the game has passed Bob Knight and Pat needs to change his style...it won't work with today's kids...Lamar is a big step down though, he may make it a couple of years...good luck to old school...
Really? Since when does a style if executed properly will not work?

Are you saying that Dean Smith's style does not work?  Maybe not  the way since we have the shotclock, but his fast-paced and trap defenses still do.  If you do not believe that..

SEE Roy Williams in the dictionary.  Sure they are different styles and different approaches, but the style still works.

Indiana should fire Crean right  now and take Butler's Stevens.

The ACC once again is a place where great coaches do not want to go as VCU Smart rejects NCS and NCS ended up with a retread in Mark Gottfried from SEC's Bama.

Penn State should look at Butler's Stevens too or Pat Knight, but they stayed put for another year, they will make a change soooner or later.

Well, the Big East had over 38% of the Conference in the Final Coaches Poll more on avearge than any other Conference, as the ACC came in with just 25% along with Big-12 at 25%, Big Ten at 27%, Pac-10 20% and SEC at 17%. The Big East is reality only put 8 Teams in the Tourney since the Seelection Committee had them playing 6 Teams against each other in teh Second round to prevent them going farther.

Still, a big year in the Big East with 69% of the Conference in teh Tournament a new record and the ACC has become a 2 Team conference in Duke and UNC, and the rests come and go with 2 to 3 teams at best in almsot every year now.

The trend should continue as Big East basketball proved to be the ebst from start to finish this year even with the Selection committee setting them up to lose 3 Teams in the Second Round.

This looks like a good move. This is where Pat Knight should have started, at a small school that would allow him to learn how to be a head coach. Texas Tech was just too big a start for him. Now he'll get a chance to prove whether or not he can be a Division I coach.

Old school?  Did you watch any of the NCAA tournament?  Almost all of the successful teams/coaches played Knight's style or adopted his teachings into their game.  He once told a reporter that he "has forgotten more about basketball than you will ever know about basketball."  I think that applies to where you are coming from.  The pick and roll, the tight man-to-man defenses, the back picks, and the cutting offenses that exist today all have their roots with Bob Knight.  His problem is not that his basketball methods are outdated.  His problem is that his people skills suck.  Many players today, especially those considered "star" caliber, are spoiled, babied, coddled prima donnas who don't know how to accept coaching or don't feel they need to be coached.  I don't know how any of these coaches do it today.  Good luck to Pat at Lamar.  It is a good job with decent competition and some good "coachable" players come through there. Let someone else try to recruit to Lubbock.
