Tennessee announced on Sunday that Missouri State's Counzo Martin will replace Bruce Pearl as the Vols' basketball coach. He'll be formally introduced at a Monday press conference in Knoxville.

"Cuonzo is among the most promising young coaches in the game, and we are excited about the coaching ability, toughness, and energy that he brings to our program," said UT athletic director Mike Hamilton. "He has a proven track record of success as a head coach at Missouri State and an assistant at Purdue as well as an outstanding career as a college basketball player. His Missouri State program improved from 11 wins to 26 in just two seasons, and they won the regular season conference championship this year."

Martin was 61-41 in three seasons at Missouri State.

His Bears finished 26-9 this season and won the school's first Missouri Valley Conference title.

I remember him as a basketball player at Purdue.  Heck of a player.  A winner and a protege of Keady.  Not a bad hire for the down in the dumps Vol basketball team.  After that performance against Michigan in the second half, just count your blessings anyone accepted.  I've never in my life seen a bunch of quitters like that.  Why he didn't bench all of them?  Wait...........the captain went down with his ship.

Hamilton shows his amazing insight once again. Selecting a coach before the tournament is over shows he is trying to keep the wolves off his a**. Proves to the Vol Nation that he wasn't even looking at hiring one of the real young gun coaches. Hamilton has destroyed the football and baseball programs and now his handiwork will be on display with the men's basketball program. Enough is enough!

Give him a chance.  He is supposed to be a good recruiter...did a good job for Painter at Purdue.  I really like Painter and can hope that Martin will be similar to Painter.  I love all the experts on the message boards who are dogging this hire.  Welcome Cuonzo & Go Vols!

It is a good hire, most Tennessee fans wouldn't know what a good hire in basketball is.  Stevens to Tenn is a pipe dream.

Well, not sure about whether or not this is a good hire, Id say only time will tell and in the meantime we can just hope for the best,  I still think we had a shot at VCU coach or maybe even Butlers coach Brad stevens or rickmond coach Mooney.  So much for guessing now.  Lets hope this guy knows how to recruit some talent!!!!  We need our current recruits to stay!!!!  Go Vols!!!

I hope Martin does well but I do not think this is the right fit for UT. I hope Mike Hamilton is fired real soon.

You would have heard of Martin if the ncaa tournament didn't screw Missouri State this year like they do every year.

Tennessee hires Missouri State's Martin

Wow, this is not the best move.  Iowa hired Todd Lickliter away from Butler a few years ago, like Martin, he had only ever coached one team in one conference.  I would think the Vols would want a guy who coached in a few places with a variety of experience.

Still, I wish Tennessee the best, Martin is a good guy and has great potential, he is just not super seasoned at this time.
