Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Posted on: March 3, 2011 7:14 am

Brandon Davies was suspended from BYU's basketball team for the remainder of the season because he violated the part of the school's honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune.

The paper reported that Davies acknowledged the violation to BYU officials Monday.

BYU announced Davies' suspension on Tuesday.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

Davies was averaging 11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds. The No. 3 Cougars lost 82-64 Wednesday night to New Mexico in their first game without Davies. They close the regular season Saturday against Wyoming.

The problem most definitely is the player and society.  EVERYONE who plans on going to BYU knows before hand that there is a moral code that you must abide by when attending this private university.  He choose to take the scholarship money, agreed to abide by the rules and broke them.  This is just one shining example of what is wrong with society.  When you make a commitment to do something do it.  Don't just accept the money and then not live up to your promise.

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

The people at BYU have shunned him soooo much for his horible transgressions that they chanted his name and cheered the loudest for him out of ANY player when cutting down a portion of the division winning net in a suit and tie. Horrible Mormons!!!

By the way stop with the black crap from the early 70's when this damn church "finally" allowed blacks to hold full rights to thier preisthood just like any other man.

Tell me, in history has it ever been easy for black people to obtain the same rights as others??? Absolutely not!! Look at this country with the greatest shame for hanging and murdering countless black people.......not the mormons idiot. Only a lame like you would'nt research thier facts about blacks and the preisthood in the mormon church and think another pricks misinformed post about blacks is a  "lol!!!! great post"

 Rainbow:

Harvey Milk said " If you're not gay, your're just not on the right side".......and Catholic Preists can't leave kids alone. It easy to bash a religion based on your own set of archaic facts, which are suspect at best. As well it's easy to quote people from the past who are not "in line" with what is considered "politically correct" these days. Stop reaching and talk about what happens in this day and age with this specific religion.....better yet talk more about the specific situation at hand.

The guy probably told on himself. Stop being such a sissy and feeling sorry for an idiot that broke rules at such a strict school. Talk about his idiocy instead of the institutions. This is a free country. There is NO other college like BYU. He could have taken his talents elsewhere, but he did'nt. He knew what was expected of him and he blew it, plain and simple. So stop using this as an opportunity to tag the Mormon church

Being critical of people for what they said in their "time" is easy. Hindsight is what??? I'm sure the garbage we talk about in everyday life as being acceptable will be disected by future generations. So what. On this specific subject the church does not have the same view. Throw them down the toilet forever for what Brigham Young said, or get over the fact that thier religion is a worldwide religion, as well as the fastest growing religion to ever be on the face of the earth. Those are the facts. No I am not a Mormon, but I research alot of things. Black people that are church members don't hold this against the church, so what the hell is your problem?

Do you want to go on and on with this crap talk on religion and politics or do you want to talk about what actually happened here Rainbow? God, it's hard enough to read the crap you type, unless your "supposedly" quoting someone. So please, dispsense with the bulls*it will you.

In a nutshell, the point I am making (and may be proven wrong), is this is not about having sex, it is about a baby.  It will take 4 to 7 months to prove me wrong.  This isn't so much about the "honor" of a kid, as it is about the "perceived integrity" of an Institution/Religion/Cult/Global Business.  Take your pick of the four, all apply.

I have 2 posts on this thread that most Mormons would question, yet none refute.  Davies was raised in Utah and definately knew the "honor code" before he enrolled.  I don't question BYU in their standards, however, I do question the consistency of those standards.  I CHALLENGE ANYONE to google "Jim McMahon".  See what he and his father said (ON RECORD) before he accepted the scholorship, during his days at BYU and his thoughts after leaving.  Even Joseph Smith would see the double standard.

It is a shame that such a great player felt into a snarl of this kind. A great lost for the team and the turnament in general. This ugluy episode should serve to all of us, to be very careful of what we put our signature. My hope is that he gets out of this mess with his face high and staring at the sun and not a darkness! Options are plenty. Choose of different school. A different team. Human life, atletes or not, polititian or not, is a journey teeming with back choises, mistakes and corrections. To you Davies, i wish the best! Do not give up! Life is a choice to live to our potentials!

Report: BYU suspended Davies for premarital sex

Brigham Young said: "Why are so many of the inhabitants of the earth cursed with a skin of blackness? It comes in consequence of their fathers rejecting the power of the holy priesthood, and the law of God. They will go down to death. And when all the rest of the children have received their blessings in the holy priesthood, then that curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and they will then come up and possess the priesthood, and receive all the blessings which we now are entitled to." One belief held by the LDS is that skin color of Native Americans would gradually change from dark to light as they repented of their sins. So... as soon as Davies skin turns white we'll know he's repented and will then be allowed to play on the team. Only after that can join Michael Jackson in heaven. But back to the sports page...

Fly that flag buddy. I'm sure there's a march for y'all somewhere isn't there?? Facts, lame, facts......God allows any (the "blacks in the preisthood" line is old and archaic idiot) and all races into heaven, just not anybody from the rainbow flag bearing clan. I know.....it always makes you guys mad when you're told you CAN'T do something or go somewhere.
