Pearl will be charged with unethical conduct

Tennessee received its notice of allegations from the NCAA on Tuesday that detailed the infractions uncovered during an investigation into the school's football, baseball and men's basketball programs.

The school is expected to release the notice of allegations as early as Wednesday.

Sources with knowledge of the allegations told CBSSports.com on Tuesday that Bruce Pearl will be charged with "unethical conduct" for providing false information to investigators about illegally hosting recruits at his home. As CBSSports.com first reported in September, Pearl provided "incorrect and misleading information" when presented with a picture proving former recruit Aaron Craft was at Pearl's home in violation of NCAA rules.

Craft is now a freshman point guard at Ohio State.

Tennessee has already voided Pearl's contract in response to the admitted violations. He's now working under a letter of appointment. The SEC suspended Pearl for the Vols' first eight league games this season in a proactive move. But sources familiar with the case have told CBSSports.com that additional sanctions are almost certainly coming, and it should be noted that NCAA present Mark Emmert suggested in December that he believes coaches who lie to the NCAA should be subject to the same type of punishment given to student-athletes who lie to the NCAA.

"We certainly want to uphold the standards for coaches -- who are the teacher and the authority figure in that relationship -- to at least the same standards that we hold our students," Emmert said when reminded that former Oklahoma State football player Dez Bryant was suspended for a year for lying to the NCAA, which is something Pearl has already acknowledged doing.

Pearl will be charged with unethical conduct

It doesn't matter if you like the guy or not, if he's a saint or satan, Pearl knows what's legal and what's not, what he can do and what he can't.  He knew it was wrong to have that recruit at his home for a BBQ, come on give me a break.  If he gave the kid money he would have snuck around doing it, but this was wrong, and at the same time right out there in the open.  So in a way he was saying I'm doing something wrong but I don't care, I'll do what I want.  Well he's right, he did it and he's paid but it looks like he's going to pay some more.  If the NCAA only cracks down on players and not the Coaches, then they need to disband the system and start all over.

What will Pearl's "punishment" be this time? Maybe he'll have to sit out the first half of the first two SEC games next year. Or maybe they'll make Pat Summit show up shirtless and painted orange at a men's game. Whatever it is, it'll be a joke. That much I'm quite sure of.

Pearl will be charged with unethical conduct

It gets tougher and tougher to remain a sports fan with all of the corruption and the B.S.  There must be some honest, fair coaches out there somewhere,  What a negative attitude I have developed.  Aaaah, to be young and idealistic again!

Pearl will be charged with unethical conduct

I stand with Coach Bruce Pearl.  He had recruits to his house for a BBQ and he lied about it to the NCAA.  He has admitted his mistake.  He has been stripped of $1.5 Million, suspended from coaching 8 conference games and banned from recruiting on the road for a year.  Should the man lose his job because he had recruits to his house for a BBQ? Bruce considers all of his players, coaches, managers, trainers, etc. as family and he loves to entertain at his house. He screwed up by inviting recruits to his house to show them the family atmosphere that exsists within UT basketball.  He was wrong.  And then, when caught, he was scared and he lied about it.  No question he was wrong.  But should he be fired for this?  Did he pay a player? NO Did he give a player a car? NO.  Bruce runs a pretty clean program, which can not be said for many other top programs.  Lets look at the good he has done for UT basketball, the city of Knoxville and the entire world of college basketball.  Look at the Outlive program that has raised much needed money for cancer research, look at what he has done with the camps for the special needs kids, look at the charities he helps on.  Bruce is always there to help out when needed.
He made a mistake. Lets not lose a great asset to college basketball.

Pearl will be charged with unethical conduct

Bruce Pearl, like Kelvin Sampson, is a good coach of basketball players, but is a despicable and unethical person. Its always about what is best for Bruce Pearl and his stature as a coach that motivates him to ignore NCAA rules and ethical behaviors. The Deon Thomas incident was the first sign of his true self - maybe this will be his last, at least as a leader of young collegians. Sampson single-handedly destroyed the Indiana basketball program for several years. Tennessee will be lucky to survive Pearl's narcissism. They can only hope that the NCAA penalties are pinpointed at Pearl and that the University sneaks passed this mess. Like Sampson - who is now with the Milwaukee Bucks, Bruce Pear would be better suited in the NBA - where ethical behavior is an afterthought.

Pearl will be charged with unethical conduct

Keep in mind This is the same guy who many years ago setup Jimmy Collins by taping a phone call between them then sending it to the NCAA, which got Collins fired eventually. He wasn't worried about the rules then he just wanted to advance his career.  He's the scum of the earth willing to step over and piss on anyone all for the glorification of his ego.  While I'm sure most coaches have violated the NCAA rules somwhere along the line, Pearl epitomizes the word scumbag.
