Elite point guard decommits from Texas

Posted on: October 30, 2010 6:57 pm

Myck Kabongo, MaxPreps.com's No. 2 point guard in the Class of 2011, publicly decommitted from Texas on Saturday and told recruiting analyst Dave Telep that he's now considering Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and Syracuse in addition to the Longhorns.

"I'm not opening it up to everybody, but I'm going to open it to certain schools," Kabongo said. "I'll look at Syracuse, Duke, North Carolina, Texas and Kentucky. That's it."

Kabongo committed to Texas in January 2009.

He's now the nation's highest-rated available recruit.

you sure you are actually a duke fan, dukefan704?  duke has an offer outstanding on quinn cook, who is also a top point guard and we are playing wait and see with him and carolina... with adams decommitting and going to georgetown, the only players we are looking for in our 2011 class are point guards.  irving is gone next year and curry (with his scoring ability) is more of a fit at 2.  dawkins is a 2/3.  that leaves thornton as the only scholarship point guard.  this means cook/kabongo have a real chance to start for us in the point guard spot.  so as a fan, start rooting for us to pick up the good recruits!

uradufuss, it's hard to get mad at the kids when we see coaches do it every year as well.  All the kids have are a letter of commitment, not a binding contract.  Meanwhile, coaches do have a binding contract, but often bolt for greener pastures.  Likewise, universities will fire coaches who still have time remaining on their contract.  I agree with you that it is frustrating, and I don't like it any more than you do (even though there is a chance that we could wind up signing this kid now), but there is little that can be done about it at this point.  And let's not forget, we are talking about kids here.  We can't expect them to always make the most mature decisions.

Jaminrawk, you are quite the idiot.  I love this statement: " I'm sure that's what every top recruit dreams of: being a sidekick".  No, actually, what every recruit dreams of is being a 1st round draft pick in the NBA with guaranteed money, so maybe we won't.......oh, wait a minute.  That's right!  Bledsoe WAS a 1st round draft pick in the NBA, and Bledsoe DID get guaranteed money.  Wow, if possible, you look even more moronic now.

wow.  it's great that you're a fan of WVU, but have you seen this guy play?  i'm guessing not, because you're wrong on both counts.

He didn't put WVU on his list for two reasons.  1) He isn't good enough to get any floor time with the crop of guards the Mountaineers have.  And 2) He is too much of a "it's all about me guy" who would get put in his place by Bob Huggins.

i think this puts pressure on cook.  he's had an offer from duke for awhile now.  either way, duke is looking good at point guard right now.
