Anthony Davis committed to Kentucky on Friday a week after Michael O'Brien of the Chicago Sun-Times alleged that his father, Anthony Davis Sr., "negotiated a deal that promised $200,000 from someone who wanted" the heralded prospect to pledge his allegience to UK.

Anthony Davis Sr. confirmed the commitment to

"I hope UK is ready for the NCAA to come on in," one high-major coach texted to after the story broke, point being that the NCAA will almost certainly spend time examining Davis' recruitment based on nothing more than the Sun-Times article. At this point, it doesn't matter whether the allegation has merit. This development will be scrutinized regardless, which is why many industry sources believed Davis might ultimately choose DePaul, Ohio State, Syracuse or some other college -- anybody other than Kentucky -- after last week's story went national.

But he didn't.

Consequently, John Calipari is now assured of having the nation's best recruiting class for the third straight season. Davis, ranked fifth in the Class of 2011 by, is the third prospect ranked among the top six nationally to commit to UK. He joins Michael Gilchrist (No. 1) and Marquis Teague (No. 6).

Mark my word....Anthony Davis will be a bust! Cal will think back at how much it sucks to waste $200,000.

O, and by the way, UK is MUCH better this year than last.  So they will at least make the final fourWhat? You already know that UK is going to be much better then the #2 overall seed from last year, lol. I'm sure you picked them to miss the final four last year too.

I don't like Cal and doubt he's a real ethical guy, but people do need to chill out on bashing him and UK everytime a good recruit commits.  Big deal if a top HS BB player goes to play ball for a top program with a top NBA producing coach, how is this breaking news. I would think these players would rather go somewhere else where they would be the top frosh and player on campus but somehow he manages to talk them into joining up(or maybe some booster pays them, i don't know). As long as Kansas keeps winning with class acts like Roy Williams and Bill Self running the show i could care less what UK is doing with there program, especially since they haven't made a final four in over a decade.

Duke got lucky in March this March being put into the easiest bracket BY FAR.  Duke will not have nearly the success this season as they did last season.  O, and by the way, UK is MUCH better this year than last.  So they will at least make the final four.

Davis commits to Kentucky

Once it became obvious that this kid was going to commit to Kentucky, these rumors surfaced. If these supposed journalists or even high-major coaches and assistants had knowledge that this kids family was trying to extort universities, they should have went to the NCAA immediately. Instead, they wait to see if they are going to land him. And of course they don't, and the kid goes to UK like every other superstar. Now that he has committed to UK, "sources" have come out and spoken to a Chicago Newspaper about alleged extortion attempts. These reports are fictional, made up. UK doesn't have to pay players to come here. UK has the best program, tradition, fans, and facilities. Hell, if anything the money would be flowing the other way, because a kid would want to play here more than anything, especially since they are nearly guaranteed to be a first round draft pick. The idiot that cited the "kentucky shame" si cover from "a couple of years ago", hello needle dick that was on the cover of SI in 1989, making it more than a couple of decades ago. Hate all you want "other fans" because i hate you too. But don't lie and slander a young man for personal gain. I don't make up lies about other programs, because there is only one program in the world that matters... U of K.

Hey bgwildcat, tell us about all those NCAA championships UK has won this century or that Calipari has won EVER.  Tell us about your players' graduation rates.  Tell us about how Cal has never done anything wrong, that his leaving schools right befoer the NCAA showed up and vacated all their wins is purely coincidental.

While you're at it, you may as well tell us about how real the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny are.

I'll answer the question about how "real" the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are...

About as real as the number of NCAA Championships Xavier has hanging from their rafters...  Laughing

Wow. It's hilarious how so many are so wound up by Cal and his recruits LOL. He's a cheater, he's dirty, he's a slimebag. All backed up by unsourced reports from reporters that have skin in the game. I wish I was that dumb. To latch on to that reporter, that story, the one with NO LEGS, and I wish I could allow my life to be surrounded by a notion, a hope, a wish, a freakin prayer - that Cal would go down. That all the rumors were true. That he'd take down my arch enemy. Because right now he's kicking everyone's ass. Say what you want .. last year they had an NBA roster and didn't make the Final 4. Ok fine.

What happens when he does? What happens when he assembles a group of guys so good, you want to puke? What happens when they do actually win one or heaven forbid two? He's just a year in here I might remind you. Perhaps you're ready to puke now. LOL. One day, he'll be vindicated .. of all this silly high school accusation BS. He doesn't NEED to cheat now. He has kids lining up at his door. Enes Kanter called HIM! UK isn't paying players cuz they don't have to. It's more likely that kids would pay UK to play for them.

Don't like it? Sorry. That's life. Suck it.

Well, Kentucky fans get to listen to fans like you cry about all of our success and to be honest, it's pretty funny.  Maybe someday soon the shoe will find it's way onto the other foot and you'll have your chance to laugh at a few pathetic Wildcat fans. I can only hope if it happens you can manage to see yourself in the sorry crying of those fans. Until then, thanks for the laughs wallcjk!

I'm just messing with you. As far as unwanted attention goes, if someone at Kentucky is playing dirty, then I would love to see them punished and kicked out of basketball as much as you probably do. If Kentucky can't pull in big recruits with the facilities, arena, and an  atmosphere that the UK faithful can create, then we just don't deserve them. I love UK basketball but the integrity of the game always comes first.

Davis commits to Kentucky

You know I must say I have no problem at all with UK Basketball. The legacy is unbelievable and there is nothing wrong with UK hoops being back near the top again. What bewilders me is the acceptance of the fan base to bring in a guy like Cal. Cal is a dirtbag, a smart one with a great sales pitch and now an even better product to sell. He is impatient and cuts corners where he can. Is he handing out checks, no he isn't that dumb. Is he working with others in the world of sports agents and boosters? Absolutely. Now you can have simple interactions with agents as a coach "off the air" as a coach who truly cares about how his players do off the court and out of the NCAA. Cal is a slimy, yet opportunistic salesman.

I think the Davis claims are somewhat false. With that said, a player who jumped onto the scene late, was recruited by SU first and then all the sudden brings non-players into the mix right away, followed by these accusations? Something isn't right. Unlikely its as bad as reported but something went down, Id imagine whaterver it was has now been retracted to ensure this will go forward clean as a mafia balance sheet.

Oh and before you go on about jealousy, try again, Cuse just got Rakeem Christmas and Davis interests me very little. What bothers me is that fans of a program so rich with history and fundamental success back their school's plan to deliver instant success with much lower standards. UK basketball is fine in my book, but Cal is not and for obvious reasons. Im a cowboys fan who never accepted T.O. and for sound reasoning. Why get behind a guy who puts himself in front of everything as a giant marketing tool?

If in fact the story is true, not saying it is, and Cal or someone close paid the 200k maybe Cal was afraid if he backed off Davis, Sr. would spill his guts.
