MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A body found Wednesday in a wooded area in southeast Memphis is former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, CBSSports.com learned early Wednesday.
The Wright family released a statment late Wednesday night confirming the death.
Wright was 34 years-old.
"Lorenzen’s family has come together to mourn his loss and honor his legacy," the statement said. "We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and condolences as they are comforting at this very difficult time. Additionally, we ask that you please respect our privacy as we try to cope with his sudden loss.”
Wright was last seen July 19 and reported missing last Friday. Memphis Police have not confirmed anything. But multiple media outlets are reporting that Wright was shot multiple times, meaning this will likely be considered a homicide investigation into the death of the former lottery pick.
Wright's death has special meaning in Memphis. The 6-foot-11 center is the rare athlete who played high school basketball (Booker T. Washington High), college basketball (University of Memphis) and professional basketball (Grizzlies) in his hometown. He leaves behind six children.

Body found in Memphis is WrightPantyraider! There is a place for your political diatribe and a thread about a dead athelete is not that place! Try to show a little respect for the man and his family! It is bad enough that people came on here and turned this into a debate on capital punishment and then you go add your little Tea Party diatribe! |

Body found in Memphis is WrightNo. Do you honestly believe that any of these archaic (is it ok to use that word a on sports website) laws actually prevent murder. Then why don't you just turn on the news tonight. Criminals like murderers and sh*t don't usually follow the law ergo the term criminal, a crime doer, a breaker of the law. And if the law states that taking someones life is a crime how can the state break the law in that manner in the name of justice.

Body found in Memphis is WrightMan, sincere condolencses and prayers for the man's family. I'm not sure if he left us a millionaire financially, but leaving 6 youngsters behind is a tough one. Again, best wishes and hope he doesn't end up on some one's "let's make this a bad ending story" to sell a few news papers or a few thousand more blog hits. |

Body found in Memphis is WrightNot sure how anything on here shows any level of intelligence one way or another. I would suggest the insults show more than anything else. Maybe this isnt the best time for D.P. discussion, but I dont see how it shows any level of intelligence.(high or low) Maybe a little insensitive. Maybe some are just more sensitive than others.

Body found in Memphis is WrightYou aren't much for facts. If that were true Texas would have no murders. The fact is criminals don't think they'll be caught.

Body found in Memphis is Wright"...who are you or anybody else to decide who should be put to death and for what?" -Notorious 98
Rebuttal...have you ever asked or inquired of a criminal as to how he/she decided to end someone's life prematurely? Add to that, in a likely violent manner where the victim in this life had nothing to do with his/her date or time of death? I am not implying that Wright was murdered, I am however questioning your approach that "society" is the culprit for executing very violent offenders (murderers), yet I never see you or anyone else that oppose the death penalty out in the streets denouncing violent criminals and murderers. Come on--this guy could have been your brother or family member. If you want to take up a good cause, begin defending the honor of the deceased at the hands of violent offenders or simply, volunteer with any of the victim advocacy groups...something or anything, just stop standing up for criminals. *Again, this case may have been a suicide and nothing criminal... |
