Seton Hall to hire Iona's Willard

Posted on: March 28, 2010 3:35 pm

Iona's Kevin Willard has agreed in principle to be Seton Hall's next coach, two sources confirmed to CBSSports.com.

One source said a final deal is "in the works."

Another described it as "done."

An official announcement could come as early as Monday.

Willard is the son of Louisville assistant Ralph Willard. The New York native spent three years at Iona and led the Gaels to a 21-10 record this season. He replaces Bobby Gonzalez, who was fired earlier this month after a loss in the NIT.

Seton Hall to hire Iona's Willard

As a Gael fan, this is a shame. Willard was a good recruiter, solid coach.....definitely had Iona going in the right direction. Hopefully they can avoid a drop off next season under the new coach

Great News

Fantastic Hire. Great job Seton Hall. I'm sure Shaheen Holloway is part of the package. Big recruiting on the way .
Let's keep the Jersey Boys in Jersey.
Pat Hobbs congrats.

Best of luck to him.  Hopefully he'll do a better job in NJ than his dad did @ Pitt.  Can't be worse than Bobby G, right?
