Onuaku expected to practice Monday

A MRI determined Syracuse's Arinze Onuaku has a right quadriceps injury that shouldn't keep him off the court when the Orange open the NCAA tournament next week, the school announced Friday.

Syracuse officials expect Onuaku to resume practice Monday.

The senior center suffered what was initially described as a knee injury in Thursday's loss to Georgetown, and some feared it was a torn ACL. But the MRI performed Friday afternoon ruled that out as a possibility, and news that the injury isn't serious should ensure Syracuse gets a top seed in the NCAA tournament based on a 28-4 record that helped the Orange win an outright Big East title.

Onuaku is averaging 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Onuaku expected to practice Monday

This team is still a number one seed, even if AO is coming off the bench while Kris Joseph starts in his place. Also, there are still several days left until the tourney starts and AO should be rested up and feeling much better by then.

Go Cuse!

Onuaku expected to practice Monday

I'll help with this, I am not a doctor either, but in less than a year I will be a Physical therapist.

1. Meniscus can be torn and let the bone slide of "track" and then "pop" back into place, swelling and pain, but can still play!
2. There is a small piece of cartilage on the inside of the knee called a Plica, this can "pop" when it tears away from the bone...this is painful, but is really nothing at all, the pain will go away with really little more than tylenol.
3. On the outside of the thigh from your hip to the top of your knee is a tendon that can feel like a "pop" but what really happens is like a rubber band effect, as if you stand and flex, the thigh pulls up towards your hip, well when the tendon is stretched over a period of time it can be resting in an abnormal position and the flexing may cause it to "pop" into the correct place (most athletes have experienced this often actually and it can be painful like a charlie horse) it is also the reason to warm up before getting phytsically active, in this case they would have been warmed up already, it is more likely a simple tear in the facia, facia is what holds all the muscle tissue in place and why the muscle balls up when flexed, can be very annoying pain, but can still play some limited minutes.

Hope that helps...and last but not least

GO CUSE!

Onuaku expected to practice Monday

For some reason Onuaku is not a household name here in the midwest.  The guy is a genuine team player and pro prospect. Cuse has been a serious contender for the FF all season long thanks to his excellent team play.   I was shocked to see him injured but am glad he ill be all right.

Go cuse!

Onuaku expected to practice Monday

'jlt421':  Or should I say 'Genius'?  Note that Gary Parrish is reporting Syracuse plans to practice Onuaku beginning on Monday.  That's after Saturday in case the days of the week elude you.  And I would suspect that he might still have a limp just 36 hours after going down.  Furthermore, your post was curiously submitted at 1:04 AM on Saturday.  Am I to believe that the team carries on midnight madness practices just for the hell of it?!?!!!!

Truth really be told, there's a lot more to your bullsh*t than what we already know.

Nice try, Hoya fan.

Onuaku expected to practice Monday

This is great news no doubt. However, can't help but laugh at the will they or won't they get a #1 seed. Who the **** cares?! Are we making the Big Dance? Yup!! SU was a 2 ('87), 4 ('96) and 3 seed their last four trips to the Final 4. The latter being thier national championship season. So while I guess getting a 1 seed is some sort of honor it's somewhat irrelevant as teams still have to win ball games regardless of where the hell they're seeded. GO ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
