I had the details wrong.

I admit that much.

But I did tell you that Kentucky would not go undefeated, that the Wildcats would lose on the road. And wouldn't you know it, before my stupid column was up even 12 hours, the Wildcats lost at South Carolina, otherwise known as a place I thought they'd win.

Final score: Unranked South Carolina 68, No. 1 Kentucky 62.

Call it the President Obama Jinx.

As you probably heard, President Obama called the Kentucky basketball team Tuesday to thank them for organizing a telethon that raised more than $1 million for Haiti. He referred to John Wall as "all-star" and told the team that "the way [they] were going" indicated they might end up at the White House accepting congratulations for winning a national title. President Obama then asked who Kentucky played next. John Calipari told him South Carolina, at South Carolina.

"I think you should be alright," President Obama said. "But there is that tendency once you get to be No. 1 to start letting down a little bit. So you guys stay focused."

Roughly nine hours later, Darnell Dodson missed an open layup in a one-possession game with a little more than five minutes to play. No focus. It seemed to foreshadow the conclusion, which was Kentucky's first loss -- a loss to a team that entered with an 11-8 record, a loss to a team that lost its second-best player (Dominique Archie) to a knee injury five games into the season.

"Let's be honest," South Carolina's Devan Downey told reporters afterward. "No one gave us a chance."

That's basically true.

But President Obama did tell UK to stay focused or else.

The Wildcats did not.

So now they're one of five teams with one loss.

Just like Kansas.

BYU.

Villanova.

And Syracuse.

UK ignores Obama, loses focus (and game)

Obama played pick up with UNC and picked them to win the NCAA championship last year. That turned out pretty well. I realize Parrish was joking around, but some people take that jinx stuff to seriously.

I am so sick and tired of hearing about Obama. Yes, everywhere he goes, whatever he touches turns to crap. We all know this. Now, the big news is Kentucky got beat. Let's not let O'bummer suck all the oxygen out of a college basketball story.

Actually, I do think the Cats will wax SC in Lexington - Badly - perhaps the worst beating of the season will come to SC.  They had their day, good for them.  I can't see UK missing as many layups as they did yesterday and losing to this team again.  Just not going to happen - so enjoy today and the next few days before your next loss.  These things happen.  Sometimes you catch a football against the top of your helmet to keep the drive going and you end up winning, or you have 2.4 seconds to go the length of the floor, you spin and shoot and you play on; this is one of those things - and it's only half-way through the season...play on.

For the record...Tennesse will not beat UK - they're always the great "pretender" - and it'll be someone unsuspecting - maybe even South Carolina, anyway - it should be a fun ride.

====

And so it goes....not totally unexpected.  The 20 or so missed lay-ups will get you killed everytime.  I mean really - open lay-ups.  Crazy, but n ot unexpected.  Please note the above though - Tennessee is not our concern - it's the little guys with a lot to gain and nothing to lose - always is.

Maybe they were too busy checking these out : http://www.ukteamshop.com/wildcats/

Who makes a shirt for being ranked #1 in the polls? How embarassing. Not only did they actually make a shirt for something UNC, KU, UCONN, DUKE, UCLA, etc would NEVER make a shirt for, they lost before these #1 shirts were in the team store. Anyone who pre-ordered one is a jackazz. Too hilarious. Vintage Calipari media-whoring that blew up in their face.
