The Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List was announced Thursday morning.

It consists of 50 players, 44 of whom were on the initial ballot I filed (as one of six members of the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors). The players on the Preseason Watch List missing from my initial ballot are Patrick Christopher (California), Jerome Dyson (Connecticut), Jerome Jordan (Tulsa), Sylven Landesberg (Virginia), A.J. Ogilvy (Vanderbilt) and Edwin Ubiles (Siena). Instead, I had Kenny Boynton (Florida), DeMarcus Cousins (Kentucky), Wesley Johnson (Syracuse), E'Twaun Moore (Purdue), Lance Stephenson (Cincinnati) and Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas).

Anyway, here's the list (in alphabetical order):
  1. Solomon Alabi (Florida State)
  2. Cole Aldrich (Kansas)
  3. Al-Farouq Aminu (Wake Forest)
  4. James Anderson (Oklahoma State)
  5. Luke Babbitt (Nevada)
  6. Talor Battle (Penn State)
  7. Trevor Booker (Clemson)
  8. Matt Bouldin (Gonzaga)
  9. Craig Brackins (Iowa State)
  10. Avery Bradley (Texas)
  11. Da'Sean Butler (West Virginia)
  12. Sherron Collins (Kansas)
  13. Patrick Christopher (California)
  14. Ed Davis (North Carolina)
  15. Devan Downey (South Carolina)
  16. Jerome Dyson (Connecticut)
  17. Devin Ebanks (West Virginia)
  18. Derrick Favors (Georgia Tech)
  19. Luke Harangody (Notre Dame)
  20. Manny Harris (Michigan)
  21. Gordon Hayward (Butler)
  22. Lazar Hayward (Marquette)
  23. Xavier Henry (Kansas)
  24. Robbie Hummel (Purdue)
  25. Damion James (Texas)
  26. Jerome Jordan (Tulsa)
  27. Sylven Landesberg (Virginia)
  28. Gani Lawal (Georgia Tech)
  29. Kalin Lucas (Michigan State)
  30. Tasmin Mitchell (LSU)
  31. Greg Monroe (Georgetown)
  32. A.J. Ogilvy (Vanderbilt)
  33. Patrick Patterson (Kentucky)
  34. Jerome Randle (Calfornia)
  35. Scottie Reynolds (Villanova)
  36. Samardo Samuels (Louisville)
  37. Larry Sanders (VCU)
  38. Kyle Singler (Duke)
  39. Tyler Smith (Tennessee)
  40. Isaiah Thomas (Washington)
  41. Evan Turner (Ohio State)
  42. Edwin Ubiles (Siena)
  43. Jarvis Varnado (Mississippi State)
  44. Greivis Vasquez (Maryland)
  45. Kemba Walker (Connecticut)
  46. John Wall (Kentucky)
  47. Willie Warren (Oklahoma)
  48. Terrico White (Ole Miss)
  49. Nic Wise (Arizona)
  50. Chris Wright (Dayton)
The Big East and ACC placed nine players each on the 50-player list.

The Big 12 and SEC each had eight.

By class, it breaks down like this:
  • Seniors: 19
  • Juniors: 14
  • Sophomores: 12
  • Freshmen: 5
"The level of talent is exceptional across all teams, conferences and classes, which further underscores just how many candidates have a legitimate chance to win this award,” said Gary Stokan, Atlanta Tipoff Club president.  “We are looking forward to the start of the season and to see who will end the year as the winner of the Naismith Trophy, the most prestigious award in college basketball."

The list will be trimmed to 30 players in February.

It'll be narrowed to four finalists in March.

Just so we're clear, I didn't do the math.

It came straight from the announcement.

Either way, I wanted like eight freshmen on there.

I love em.

There's 4 freshmen, not 5 Gary

Thought I may be right, but what's funnier than Gary miscounting is how much the guy above me over reacted.

I only see 4 freshmen, who's the fifth?

I'm probably just not seeing it, but who is the 5th freshman, I'm just seeing Wall, Henry, Bradley and Favors.
