Irving picks Duke

Kyrie Irving, as expected, committed to Duke on Thursday.

"I'm pleased to announce that I will be committing to Duke," Irving said on live television. "I'll be a Blue Devil next year."

Scout.com ranks Irving as the No. 2 point guard in the Class of 2010.

He was also considering Kentucky and Texas A&M.

(Note: Credit SNY's Adam Zagoria with the scoop. He had this nailed two days ago, wrote it and had to deal with Irving refuting his story publicly . As a journalist, I can tell you there's nothing more frustrating than having an accurate story refuted. So it was nice to see Zagoria vindicated, and Irving probably owes him an apology via Twitter, at least.)

A high school senior owes a "professional journalist" (debateable terminology in this case) an apology?  Thin skinned much?  If Zag didn't hear it from Irving first-hand then he's owed nothing.  And if you report something that is widely thought to be the case are you really "scooping" anything?  You guys need to figure out which part of this story is the dog and which part is the tail...let me give you a hint, you writers are the posterior, in more ways than one.  Classless.

A player committing to Duke has the exact same feeling that a public figure coming out of the closet has to me.

I know that Duke has a winning tradition but, besides Grant Hill, can anyone actually say that any other Duke star was likeable?

Also, everyone should respect Coach K, but how could a player prefer him over Roy?  Maybe it's a preference to hog the spotlight at Duke rather than share the spotlight at UNC.

I don't blame Irving for getting angry at a journalist for revealing his intentions before he was ready.  He should be given the same respect that Clay Aiken deserves.

Coming out, and playing for Duke, is a very delicate situation, and the decision should be left for the player/person in question to decide when the time is right to reveal it to the world.

Your bigotry, homophobia and ignorance should be enough to ban skinheels420 for life. Crawl back under your trailer where you belong

Great pick up Duke...this kid is a stud and a class act.  I would loved to have seen him come to Lexington.

I'm a UNC fan and I still think skinsheel is an idiot.  Every family has that one drunk cousin that says inappropriate things at inappropriate times i guess.

Anyways, I'm almost glad to see this guy go to Duke I've started to hate Calipari and Kentucky so much.  We already have Kendall Marshall and Reggie Bullock coming in next year, so the battle is over Harrison Barnes now.

How about Zagoria apologizing to Kyrie for publishing a story on hear say, and trying to steal a 17 year old kid's moment in the limelight. Zags reputation precedes him and his story was so well believed that the entire Duke campus was holding it's breath until they heard from Kyrie. As for you and your ego, "Parrish the Thoughts" that anyone noticed your picture and your tan. After calling it to my attention, the only thing I noticed was the widows peak on the top of your head.
