Binghamton athletic director Joel Thirer will resign Wednesday, according to the New York Times .
Thirer's resignation comes less than a week after six Binghamton basketball players were dismissed -- among them Emmanuel "Tiki" Mayben, who was arraigned last Thursday on crack cocaine charges. Thirer did not immediately return a message left by CBSSports.com. Basketball coach Kevin Broadus also did not return a voicemail.
Thirer has been Binghamton's athletic director since 1989.
