Xavier and Gonzaga -- two of college basketball's best non-BCS programs -- have agreed to a two-year home-and-home series that will start next season, a source told CBSSports.com on Monday.

The series will begin in Spokane in the 2010-11 season.

The Zags and Musketeers will play at Xavier's Cintas Center in 2011-12.

Xavier and Gonzaga agree to home-and-home series

You might be getting your wish soon lebowski.  Coach Cal has shown hes willing to play anybody from his games against UT, Zaga, and others while at Memphis.  Im glad xavier has the balls to schedule hard games.  you can really tell theyve been tested the whole year come march.  they arent afraid of anybody and have known they can beat anyone in the country the last 5 years atleast.

Xavier and Gonzaga agree to home-and-home series

We've had some mutually satisfactory non-conference matchups for several years, involving schools from almost every "big" conference, including Wisconsin, Alabama, Miss. State, Arizona State, Kansas State, Creighton, and of course our annual "Crosstown Shootout" battle with Cincinnati.  It's just a shame that the biggest names in our area, OSU and UK, won't play us unless it's a 2-for-0 or 3-for-0 deal at their gyms.  Kentucky in particular has been unwilling to negotiate in good faith.

The Wake Forest deal is in honor of the late, great Skip Prosser, who coached at both schools.

I'm very happy with this deal, which is long overdue.  I think the only reason it hasn't happened sooner (other than travel costs) is that it made too much sense.  Wink

And this deal is on top of Xavier's deal to play home-and-home series with Wake Forest starting around 2010 as well.  Xavier is going to be a well-tested team with non-conference games like these covering multiple years.

Definite TV game. Great way to continue the exposure for both teams. Should be great games as well.

It's a great beginning and should be tough games for each. I don't think this matchup is anything BUT a heavyweight pair of games.Looking forward to the games.

This will be like a middle-weight, or even a light-heavyweight championship
fight, er...game(s). Two of the top 3 non-BCS programs over the last several years...Great job schedulers for X & Z!

Why college hoops is so much better than football

You'd never see this in college football. But you get these matchups all the time in college hoops. This should be a great two games.
