MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As expected, Memphis will ...
- Vacate all 38 wins from the 2007-08 season and its Final Four appearance.
- Face three years probation.
- Endure a public censure.
That's probably just a coincidence, right?

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?Gary,
I don't know how long the findings report is, so I was wondering if you have read the entire thing? My question is that in order to have Memphis vacate the wins, due to using an ineligible player, who by the way OF COURSE was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, it would seem to me that there should be proof or very strong implication that someone at, or associated with, the university had knowledge, should have had knowledge, or had involvement in the infraction. Is there anything that implies or flat out says this??? And that such knowledge or involvement had to occur before the end of the basketball season, and with that knowledge, the university did not withhold the athlete from competition. Otherwise, it seems specious to remove the wins! If the report says that someone knew, or should have known, or was involved, then those in the chain of command should be held responsible too. If the AD knew, he should have consequences. If the coach knew or should have known, he should have consequences, If WWW was involved, ALL in the chain of command should have consequences for creating an institutional environment that was conducive to wrong-doing! Isn't there some knew level of responsibility for the coaches, just like the institutional control/responsibility??? If there is no proof of knowledge, then the stripping of wins seems unreasonably severe punishment. If there was knowledge, then why isn't any PERSON being sanctioned in addition to the university? Somewhere here, there appears to be a huge chasm between finding fault and apportioning blame to all involved, with the load being carried entirely by the University. |

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit? So, the Chicago Public School system warned Memphis that there were problems with Rose's SAT's in October 2007, which was before the seaon began and Memphis elected to play him anyway. Sounds like Memphis values winning more than integrity!

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?Gary,
Thank you so much for your question about why Duke has never been stripped of their 1999 final four to that NCAA rep at the press conference. You said what everyone else was thinking. Bravo! |
