Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As expected, Memphis will ...
  • Vacate all 38 wins from the 2007-08 season and its Final Four appearance.
  • Face three years probation.
  • Endure a public censure.
One of the interesting bits of information released today is that the SAT in question that the NCAA believes Derrick Rose did not actually take was taken by somebody in Detroit only a month before Rose enrolled at Memphis. Rose had already taken the SAT three times and failed to get a qualifying score each time. So suddenly this Chicago native went to Detroit to take the test one final time, and would it be too cynical to mention that the famed William Wesley -- AKA "Worldwide Wes" -- just so happens to live in Detroit?

That's probably just a coincidence, right?

Sweet justification will come when someone finally connects all of the dirty little dots connecting WWW and Calipari and underworld of college basketball recruiting.  The picture revealed when the WWW/Calipari partnership is fully exposed will make USC's current situation look like a little basket of cute and fuzzy kittens.

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?

Maybe Memphis should sue for fraud, or ask the feds to use the Wire, Mail and interstate commerce aspects to pursue a criminal fraud investigation, if the feds aren't already into it. But bet'cha Memphis doesn't.

And we should ask why.

Sure, some fans will sue, but that's a much more difficult lawsuit. No, if season ticket sales drop, and some of those fans who dropped them say they dropped them because of this fraud -- you know, further damage to the university's reputation, recruiting damage and all that -- then Memphis loses money. And that's proof of damages. The courts would add a punitive aspect to send Rose and others a strong message. And there'd be an award of attorney fees.

So why don'cha, Memphis? Take a stand for your integrity. Make the statement: Defraud us and we'll get you, you and everybody else who assisted you knowingly.

But Memphis won't do that. They'll likely just whimper.

Again, why? Is Memphis not a university? Don't they teach lessons to our kids?

But basketball is different; it's entertainment, nothing more. And it makes money. Indeed, the last thing Memphis wants to do is jeopardize that flow. Memphis wants athletes, good ones, because lousy ones don't draw -- Indiana the exception. And by doing nothing, Memphis sends a message, "Hey, we're back! Let's get creative and find a way to win. Who cares about integrity, about character, about building and admiring those traits? Can you drive to the hoop, can you make the pass and steal the ball?. Are you tall?

That's all that counts...

So, it's likely Rose will dance. Good athletes get off, because nobody wants to waste that talent, that happenstance of a gene pool, the one with brawn and quickness but an empty-headed brain. Maybe our new cheer should be a resounding "Duh!"

A guy who the NCAA believes cheated... If that's true, Rose is a bug. A low and dirty bug, the kind with pinchers and a long, stinging tail. Maybe we should call him "Scorpion;" he'd probably like that. Yeah, scorpions sting and sometimes eat their mates. But Rose is too dumb to know that; hell, Derrick Rose is so dumb he couldn't get into college... without cheating. Tried over and over, to a school not known as academically "tough." When the bulb dimmed to the point of darkness, Derrick Rose and his enablers hit the "Cheat" switch. Atta boy...

Because sting and eat his mates is exactly what Derrick Rose did. He stung everybody: college basketball, Memphis, his teammates, and fans. Hell, Derrick Rose may sting WWW, or even his big brother, Mr. Chief Enabler, Captain Cheat. Oh sure Derrick will... if the feds gander. Scorpion Rose will cop a plea, pass out a few tee shirts, and sting and eat the guys who set him up.

Yeah, Rose calls himself a point guard, a leader. Well, he's a great athlete, for sure, and that seems to be paramount -- that's why these guys get off.

But he's no leader, and he's no one I'll admire.

And perhaps the saddest thing about all this, ironic actually, is that Derrick Rose is too stupid to realize any of this.

It may not matter to Derrick Rose now, but later, as he ages, even his dumb bulb may realize: "Cheater" will always be with him.

Derrick Rose is different from the guy who screwed the Cubs. That guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Derrick Rose cheated, a willful act. He's not just a cheat though...

He's a stupid cheat.

Heard John Wall also made a trip to Detroit to take the SAT...just coincidence, right.  This will be the next big story in the Calipari saga.

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?

I'm tired of all these UK fans and even the governor taking an "I'm looking the other way" stance. That is incredibly irritating! No, Coach Cal was not implicated in either situation (UMass and Mem), but COME ON! Even if you do believe in coincidence, that one's just too big, isn't it? I support all Kentucky schools, but the Bluegrass State is taking a beating this off-season. Thank God for Ken McDonald and the Tops! Cal had better proceed with utmost caution, and Lee Todd and Mitch Barnhart had better go over every move he makes and every recruit he talks to with a FINE TOOTH COMB! Just can't stand cheaters!

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?

How do the Kansas fans out there feel about this?  I haven't kept up with it too much, I honestly think that all of the big time programs cheat and manipulate the rules to get closer to winning games and/or a championship, yes, even my Blue Devils.  How do the Jayhawk fans feel having this very suspect coach at their school?  Do ya'll think the AD will keep him more on the "right" side of the line when it comes to ethics and recruiting and such?

I think maybe you're a little confused????

If the "coach" you are referring to is John Calipari, he coaches for Kentucky, not Kansas. Otherwise, I don't see how Kansas (KU) has any involvement or concern in this mess. Now Kentucky (UK) fans may be feeling somewhat concerned. And this Kansas Fan, me, wonders whether many of the UK fans aren't sweating a little more than normal in August, in the Southeastern part of the US???

Wonder why Rose's test score came from Detroit?

When is the NCAA going to investigate William Wesley???? It's the cheaters like Calipari and WWW who give college basketball a black eye. Thank you Gary for pointing out the connection with Rose's SAT testing. It's a shame Memphis has to take the fall for these crooks. Kentucky is next.

I told you...I told you....

All I can say to all those diehard Memphis fans is...."I TOLD YOU SO!"  All of you that argued with me about how great Calipari is, can now see what this guy is all about.  Make all the excuses you want for the coach, but if you're the head coach of a D1 program, then it's responsibility to know what you're getting when you sign a blue chip recruit.  You signed that was ineligible.  It's the head coach's job to make sure he is eligible.  Calipari's a scumbag and now it's all the loyal fans of Memphis who has to pay for it.  Please keep in mind that it was never my intent to bash the fans of Memphis basketball, just the former head coach.  A first class, greasy scumbag.
