The deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft highlighted, among other things, how college coaches now use Twitter.
"With Greivis back and our 09' class and the rest of our team improving every day, I truly believe we have the chance to be top 25 next year."
-- Maryland's Gary Williams
"I totally understand Jodie's decision and fully support it. He's gonna be a great pro."
-- Kentucky's John Calipari
"Gody to return to the Irish!!"
-- Notre Dame's Mike Brey
And this, quite simply, is why I signed up for Twitter. For better or worse, it is now a legitimate source of news and a window into the thoughts of the men in the sport I cover. So I'm now on Twitter. And because I'm on Twitter and following college basketball coaches, one of the things I've decided to do is provide you with the best (or worst) and most newsworthy (or completely pointless) Tweet every weekday in something I have creatively titled the CBSSports.com College Basketball Tweet of the Day .
It might be important stuff.
More likely, it'll be really stupid.
But either way, I'll have it in the blog every afternoon, I promise.
As for me, just because I have a Twitter account does not mean I plan to Tweet every hour because, honestly, I do not see the point. I guess I could tell you what I'm eating, where I'm going, or how my son just fell running up the stairs and busted his nose. But I'm assuming you are also eating and going somewhere, and that you have a child (or something similar) to keep you busy. So in those ways, I can't imagine my existence is much more interesting than yours, which is why I plan to refrain from Tweeting about the day-to-day details of my life (although I would like to tell you that I just finished a Smoothie).
So what will I do with Twitter?
I'll use Twitter to let you know when new columns are posted.
Or when breaking news happens.
Or when the blog is updated.
But that's probably about it.
So if this at all sounds interesting, feel free to follow me on Twitter . My screen name is GaryParrishCBS (plain old GaryParrish was taken already; snooze you lose, I guess). And if you are a college coach who would like to be "followed," email me at gparrish@cbs.com and let me know that you're out there in TwitterLand (or whatever).
