Kentucky junior Jodie Meeks will remain in the NBA Draft.
"I want to thank the fans and the city of Lexington. They have been great and I will always be a Kentucky Wildcat," Meeks said in a released statement. "I feel comfortable with my decision and I’m confident in my ability. My family and I talked over the weekend and decided this was the best decision."
Sources told CBSSports.com that Meeks does not have a first-round guarantee, but he has decided to stay in the draft anyway, for better or worse. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 23.7 points last season while shooting 40.6 percent from the 3-point line. He will almost certainly be picked somewhere late in the first round or early in the second.
This development is an obvious blow to John Calipari's first UK team.
With Meeks back, the Wildcats would've been most people's preseason No. 1 team. Now that honor will likely go to Kansas, although Kentucky should still be a favorite to make the Final Four thanks to a roster that is expected to include Patrick Patterson, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.

Meeks not returning to KentuckyHis agent is going to be his Dad, so if he goes undrafted (yeah, not likely) then he can pull a Randolph Morris and return, making him a free agent in the NBA next year.

Meeks not returning to Kentuckywow conjk123......way to display your amazing intellect.......that blog about meeks staying in the draft was the most amazing and relevant commentary I've ever seen!
; As for as meeks leaving.....good for him. He could definantly get lost in the mix next year with patterson and wall, and cousins, etc; where as last year at times he was one of the only viable options...his stats were bound to take a hit. So, this may be the best time for him. I hope he lands in the right spot. Go blue! |

Meeks not returning to Kentuckyif he stayed he would potientlly be a number 1 draft pick Another dillusional UK fan. If you honestly think that Meeks would even be a top 10 pick after next year, you know nothing about college basketball. Meeks is not agile or athletic enough to be a true point gaurd in the NBA and the last time I checked, 6'4" shooting gaurds are not in high demand at the next level. Meeks is a great college player and may turn out to be a decent role player in the NBA, but if you think he is going to be a superstar, your mistaken.
....and when you 'win the final four', it's called winning the national championship....and don't count your chickens before they hatch. Right now UK is 0-0 just like every other team in the country. Win a game, and then we can label them 'God's Choosen Team', until then, settle down, Sparky. |

I don't necessarily believe that. It was when KU started playing zone against Memphis in the 2008 national title game that Memphis made a comeback.
It will be a very interesting season for Kentucky. They get UNC and UConn pretty early in the season to show how good their talent is and whether or not a roster full of new players can come together for a new coach in a new system. The good news is that ANY system would be new to them. They haven't spent a year together in some other coach's system and now have to try to change how they know how to work together.
If they beat Carolina and UConn, I will consider them a serious Final Four threat. I don't expect them to win both of those games, however. We'll see.
